MOSQUITO
Around here (northeastern Ontario) they show up in April and are gone by the first or second week in May. Never mind we have ample mosquitos all year round, the larvae are only found in any numbers in the ponds here for only a couple of weeks. But when they're here there's a very large number of them; a lot get frozen and fed later on. You will invariably introducd damselfly and dragonfly larvae as well. Gularis and the largest killies will eat them, but the larvae will eat smaller killies.

FAIRY SHRIMP
Like a tw or three times normal size adult brine shrimp, fair shrimp appear only in vernal (seasonal) pools in the spring. I can't find them in any number aorund here but hiway 6 south of Guelth used to yield a years worth per linear foot in April in the ditches on the side of the road. I remember hauling back many many many on a bicycle as a kid.
